S & Amp G Gross Midtown West New York

VANISHED

S&G Gross pawnbrokers has been around New York City more than century. Their building on 8th Avenue and 34th Street is an antique treasure because of its neon sign and vintage symbol of a few golden spheres.

Now Gross is finished.

The gates are down, indicative inside the window says: "We now have moved" and "We've been purchased by Gem Pawnbrokers," in the avenue at 40th Street. Gem is a chain with more than 25 locations throughout the city, Westchester, and New York.

"Thank you every one of the years as our dedicated customers," Gross says of their goodbye note, "it had been our pleasure to serve you."

"Established in 1901 by Sol and Gus Gross," based on their internet site, "the business continues beneath the leadership of Robert Gross. The succession continues to be continued by Robert's son Gary and Gary's daughter Randi. The three generations continue to communicate produce a strong nucleus for your continued success of the business."

After 115 years, that's over. With no fanfare. Just jail window with empty jewelry cases and a lonesome handwritten sign for women MOVADO.

The pawnshop was in this location since 1918.

How old are those golden spheres? They're dented in spots, like moons struck by passing asteroids but nonetheless defying gravity.

It is quite rare around town to get the medieval pawnbroker symbol, along with glorious three dimensions similar to this. (The symbol goes on the Medici Family.) We've always enjoyed walking by and seeing them, finding out about to ensure they were there.

The trio also appears atop the neon sign. I'll hate to view them go.

After that get lucky and this piece of Nyc history given that the Gross family has left the dwelling? What horrible frozen yogurt or cupcake chain can come to destroy them?
